A relative of the tomato, a member of the nightshade (Solanaceae) family and also related to cape gooseberries (phyalis), tomatillos provide that tart flavor in Mexican green sauces.Whole tomatillos are a fruit, closest in taste to a green unripe tomato. Minced finely with green chillies, coriander, shallots, salt, and a little lime juice, whole tomatillos make Mexicos most popular sauce - salsa verde. Also kown as Tomatillos Enteros.
Tomatillos are also known asfresadilla, Mexican green tomatoes, tomate verde and miltomate.
These canned tomatillos are crammed with rich flavour, and can be used instead of fresh ones in recipes: simply eliminate the first step where the tomatillos are usually simmered or roasted.
Each can contains approx. 25 tomatillos.
Ingredients:Tomatillos (70%), water, salt and citric acid.
Once opened keep refrigerated in a covered glass or plastic container and use within 3 days.
