Alcohol-free wine is a different story.

Wine is particularly difficult to replicate without alcohol because alcohol contributes much more than just the ABV. It helps provide body, texture, aroma and balance, which means removing it without leaving the wine tasting thin or overly sweet is a considerable challenge.

But things are getting better.

The subject was explored in the BBC's Food Programme episode The Low-Alcohol Drinks Revolution: Can Wine Keep Up?, which looked specifically at why non-alcoholic wine has historically struggled to deliver on taste and the techniques producers are using to improve it.

One of the producers we've been particularly impressed by is DIVIN, whose wines are made in the Loire Valley.
